GALDINO OTTEN

Galdino Otten is a Brazilian type designer, illustrator, and visual artist behind one of Latin America’s most prolific independent digital font catalogs. With over 265 original typefaces distributed worldwide, his work forms an integral visual layer in international cinema, television productions, editorial publishing, and global branding.

Spanning more than two decades of practice, Otten’s work bridges rigorous historical research, cultural heritage, and expressive typographic craftsmanship. His design vocabulary moves seamlessly across distressed letterpress, vintage woodblock printing, military stencils, pixel art, and the raw visual vernacular of Brazilian folk culture and literatura de cordel.

His typefaces have been licensed globally by major studios, networks, and creative agencies for iconic feature films and streaming titles:

  • Lawless (2012) — Old Press

  • Savages (2012) — Old Press

  • The Man in the High Castle (Amazon Studios, 2015) — Press Style

  • Suicide Squad (Warner Bros., 2016) — Old Press

  • Love 101 (Netflix, 2020) — Old Press

  • Counter Column (2020) — D Day Stencil

  • Wolves (2023) — Dust West

Beyond type design, Otten’s multidisciplinary background encompasses illustration, graphic design, and audiovisual direction. In every project, he approaches lettering not merely as an informational vehicle, but as a dynamic storytelling medium endowed with identity, atmosphere, and narrative weight.

Through the foundry Galdino Otten Fonts, he continues to design and publish original display families, script designs, and dingbats for creatives and studios across the globe.
